As friends and neighbors we shared a common love of animals. For
several years we discussed going into business together. Finding the
right business was the key. We wanted to be able to take our dogs (Kaikai
and Kiko) to work with us. We found that Hawaii did not offer enough
pet friendly services. When our dogs went to the groomers, they
spent most of the time in separate kennels. If we wanted to travel,
we had to find someone to come to our homes to take care of them or
put them in a kennel. Kaikai and Kiko are our children, we kennel
trained them as puppies for safety reasons, but could not enjoy our
vacations knowing they would be spending their days locked up and
stressed.
In 2004, we found doggie day care to be a fast growing business on
the mainland. We traveled to the mainland and visited other doggie
day cares, attended pet services training and decided this is what
we wanted to do. Challenges of funding and location came thru with
family help. We also discovered our nieces, Rhiannon Chandler and
Michelle Kanehe (Miche) to be our greatest assets with their love
and knowledge of animals. Michele studied to become a certified
Groomer. Anna, Rhiannon and Miche became Certified Pet Care
Technicians. We are greeted with happy tails and wet kisses each and
every day—what better way to start the day!
